Steven Beckly is magic. To be precise, he is magician when it comes to capturing light, rendering light as subject. In There’s a land that I heard of, Beckly explores light in the manner in which he so beautifully does throughout his practice. The wood paneling, a teenage memory of a suburban basement caught in the warm glow of early fall afterschool light. There are no ruby slippers to be found over this rainbow, but rather a dusting of glitter: a pot of gold that for many of us in the LGBT community, over the past forty years, is Buddies in Bad Times Theatre.
